Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Biostatistics in the new School of Public Health at West Virginia University.  Biostatistics is a rapidly growing discipline as the amount of data becoming available grows immeasurably – and the need for it to be analyzed and interpreted properly.  As public health and health research in general expands in West Virginia, the opportunities are immense for our new Department of Biostatistics.

Our department is small but strong – members of our faculty have a wide variety of statistical expertise, including innovative clinical trials design, causal inference, longitudinal data analysis, and meta-analysis.  We take pride in our roles as collaborators, teachers and mentors.  Students in our programs receive a lot of individual attention throughout their time here, and our collaborators receive sound and comprehensive design and analytical assistance.  All of our educational programs (PhD, MPH, and the Applied Biostatistics Certificate) emphasize practical experience, as our students receive numerous opportunities to learn how to analyze real data of all types, including internships at companies across the region.

Whether a prospective student interested in our academic programs, or a researcher needing biostatistical assistance, I thank you for visiting our website and I look forward to hearing from you.  Feel free to browse our website, review our strategic plan, and do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to learn more.
