Faculty affiliate Dr. Ian Rockett has been invited to participate in an Expert Panel hosted by CDC's Division of Violence Prevention on "Considering Middle Age Suicide, Prescription Drug Overdose (PDO), and Prevention Challenges."

Monday, March 2, 2015

As a result of Dr. Rockett’s expertise, his research background, and his focus upon suicide misclassification and undercounting, he was invited recently to participate in an Expert Panel to be held March 9 and 10, 2015 in Atlanta at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  The Panel, which will be hosted by the CDC's Division of Violence Prevention, is entitled “Considering Middle Age Suicide, Prescription Drug Overdose (PDO), and Prevention Challenges.”  One of three major themes of this expert panel will be “classification challenges,” which will guide a section of the panel’s agenda for which Dr. Rockett was invited to serve as “thought leader.”  The discussions are anticipated to provide insight into a number of probable sources to variation in classification, including the death investigation scene, law enforcement, toxicology, bureaucracy, and others.
