Motao ZhuDr. Zhu received his M.S. and Ph.D. in epidemiology from the State University of New York at Albany. He also has an M.D. from Beijing Medical University, China. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and the Injury Control Research Center, West Virginia University.

Dr. Zhu teaches quantitative methods in epidemiology and epidemiology of traffic safety. His main research interest is the epidemiology of travel behaviors and traffic safety including calling and texting while driving, driving regulations for adolescents under age 18, traffic injuries in Appalachian region, etc. He has received grants from the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). His research has been published in a variety of journals such as Annals of Epidemiology, American Journal of Public health, Annals of Emergency Medicine, Injury Prevention, Accident Analysis & Prevention, Journal of Safety Research, and Environmental Health Perspectives. He was a Section Councilor of the American Public Health Association, Injury Control and Emergency Medical Services Section. Currently, He is an editorial board member for Injury Prevention and a grant reviewer for CDC.
