Interested in learning about infectious diseases and how they are transmitted?

The School of Public Health is offering a new undergraduate-level course in the fall 2026 semester for any students interested in learning about infectious diseases and the role of public health in disease transmission and control.

PUBH 428: Infectious Disease Epidemiology is a 3-credit course offered in person in the fall 2026 semester at the WVU Health Sciences Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 - 2:20 p.m. During the course, students will gain an overview of infectious diseases, their context, transmission and control.

Learning objectives for the course are:

  • Demonstrate basic understanding of disease emergence.
  • Appraise the role of epidemiology as it relates to infectious diseases.
  • Distinguish between predominant modes of transmission and types of diseases.
  • Evaluate the mechanisms of disease control and eradication.
