Of the Mindful Physician host discussion of role of physical, occupational therapy in living with pain

Of the Mindful Physician, an M.D. student organization studying the interaction between medicine and arts and humanities, will host a discussion on the role of physical therapy and occupational therapy in helping patients live with pain on Thursday, March 22 from 5-6 p.m. in 2118 HSC North. Megan Burkart, DPT, assistant professor of physical therapy, and Garth Graebe, OTR/L, assistant professor of occupational therapy, will lead the discussion.

Topics include:

  • The functional basis of attitudes toward pain and pain relief
  • The interplay betwwn biology and mind in creating the notion of pain
  • Pain management
  • How physical and occupational therapy work with patients to help them become more functional in their lives, change their attitude toward pain and adequately manage their pain

The meeting is open to the public.
