"Excellence in Academics” awarded to MPH Students

Congratulations to Alan Keenan and Miheret Yitayew for receiving the 2013 Excellence in Academics award for their work in the MPH Program.

Alan Keenan

Alan Keenan is from Hilltown, PA.  Mr. Keenan is a Health Policy, Management, and Leadership student and a US Army Veteran attending WVU on the Army Green to Gold scholarship program, which provides enlisted Soldiers with the opportunity to complete a Master’s Degree and be commissioned as an Army officer. Upon graduation, Keenan will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Chemical Corps as a subject matter expert for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive issues related to combat actions and force protection, where he will serve in active duty for the next four years.

Miheret Yitayew

Miheret Yitayew was born and raised in Ethiopia.  Dr. Yitayew graduated from Gondar University in Ethiopia with a Doctor of Medicine Degree in 2007, worked as a general practitioner at a referral hospital in southern Ethiopia for almost 2 years, and arrived in the United States in 2009. Dr. Yitayew’s husband, who is also a Physician, joined her just 5 months ago after spending 3 years apart.  Upon graduation, Dr. Yitayew will move to Chicago to join the pediatric residency program at the John H. Stroger Cook County Hospital with her husband.
