Health Sciences students wanted for HIV IPE Project

The MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center (MA AETC) WV Regional Partner HIV IPE Project is looking for student participants for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019.

Background: The MA AETC has formed an interprofessional educational project among its local regional partners, in order to develop a centralized IPE Collaborative (IPEC). West Virginia University was identified as one of MA AETC’s regional partners. The goal is to have six students from each School (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Occupational Health and Public Health) to create six groups with representatives from each school.

Project Purpose: The purpose of this project is to determine if working as an interprofessional team is superior to the individual provision of care in improving quality and outcomes in a patient living with HIV.

Method: Each student will interview a standardized patient living with HIV on an individual basis and develop their care plan. The interprofessional group will meet to develop a comprehensive care plan. A faculty facilitator reviews the individual student video/care plan and the group interaction video/care plan. Subsequently the faculty reviewer will meet face to face with the group to debrief and provide feedback.

Time Involved: Individual encounter with the Standardized Patient: approximately 45 minutes including Learning Space log-in. Group meeting and debrief: approximately 1.5 hours to include the development of a group care plan and debriefing with a chosen faculty facilitator. These hours may be counted as volunteer or community hours.
