TEAM Nutrition Year Two

Description: This funding will allow the West Virginia University Health Research Center (HRC) to work in collaboration with the WV Office of Child Nutrition (OCN) by evaluating the USDA Team Nutrition Grant activities.  The goals of this TEAM Nutrition Grant have been identified and prioritized from the OCN’s comprehensive evaluation and assessment activities, including Child Care Management Evaluations, Coordinated Review Efforts, feedback from childcare sponsors during trainings, and the statewide evaluation of the Standards for School Nutrition.  The OCN has been training school and child care staff and monitoring the implementation of nutrition standards since they were released.  The strategies used within this grant proposal incorporate three behavior-focused strategies as well as West Virginia’s identified best practices.  These include: 1) providing training and technical assistance to child nutrition foodservice professionals to enable them to prepare and serve nutritious meals that appeal to children; 2) providing fun and interactive nutrition education for children, teachers, parents and other caregivers; 3) building school and community support to create healthy school environments that support healthy eating and physical activity.  The HRC is currently working in the second year of its evaluation phase of the multi-year Team Nutrition Grant.
