Patients of Dr. Joel Schor can be seen by WVU Cancer Institute providers in Princeton

PRINCETON, W.Va. – Patients previously seen at the medical oncology practice of Joel Schor, M.D., in Bluefield are welcome to transition their care to providers from the WVU Cancer Institute in Princeton.

WVU Cancer Institute staff are currently working to schedule the nearly 200 patients who were actively seeing Dr. Schor when his practice closed earlier this month. Those patients had appointments scheduled through January, which can now be accepted by the WVU Cancer Institute. Staff are also working on getting those patients entered into the WVU Medicine electronic medical record system to allow for better coordination of care.

“The most important thing we want these patients to know is that we’re here for you. Battling cancer is difficult enough without having to worry about finding a new doctor to treat it,” Hannah Hazard-Jenkins, M.D., director of the WVU Cancer Institute, said. “Our charge is to provide world-class cancer care for all West Virginians across the state and those from the surrounding region, so it is our responsibility, our honor, and our privilege to be part of your fight against cancer.”

Hematologist/Oncologist Rowena Chambers, M.D., and Cami Maxwell, F.N.P.-C., will see patients at their practice located at 218 Undercliff Terrace in Princeton. Ajay Mitter, M.D., board-certified medical oncologist, Tracie McKenzie, M.S.N., A.P.R.N., F.N.P.-B.C., A.O.C.N.P., and Melissa Bogle, A.P.R.N., F.N.P.-B.C., will join the practice on Sept. 6 and will be accepting new patients.

Patients who already had an appointment scheduled with Schor will receive a phone call to have their appointments rescheduled with the WVU Cancer Institute if they choose to transfer their care. New patients who did not yet have an appointment scheduled can call 855-WVU-CARE for scheduling.

Any patients needing infusion therapy will receive those services at Princeton Community Hospital, an affiliate of the WVU Health System.

“One of the best features of our affiliation with the WVU Health System is the access our patients now have to WVU Medicine specialists and subspecialists,” Karen Bowling, president and CEO of Princeton Community Hospital, said. “The cancer patients who will now be joining the WVU Medicine family will have seamless care whether they receive outpatient care in the clinic, infusion therapy here at Princeton Community Hospital, or if they require more specialized care in Morgantown. They can rest assured that they will get the care they need when and where they need it.”
