Henderson named editor-in-chief of public health journal

Heather Henderson, Ed.D., assistant professor of health policy, management and leadership and the director of accreditation, planning and evaluation for the West Virginia University School of Public Health, has been named the new editor-in-chief of the Society for Public Health Education’s journal Pedagogy in Health Promotion. The peer-reviewed journal focuses on the scholarship of teaching and learning in the context of health promotion and disease prevention.

In this new role, Henderson has been invited to contribute to the Society for Public Health Education’s 75th anniversary time capsule. She will be preparing a letter that reflects on what is happening in society and SOPHE today, with advice for future SOPHE members to be opened during the organization’s 100th anniversary in 2050.

Henderson spent the last eight years in service to the WVU Teaching and Learning Commons as a faculty affiliate, while serving additional faculty support roles for the WVU Health Sciences Center. She is also a member and master facilitator for the WVU ADVANCE Center. Currently, she guides multiple community engagement and outreach initiatives with the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute focused on building trust and preparing future health professionals to engage in research.

On a national level, Henderson has supported the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health and the Association of University Programs in Health Administration in providing leadership and continuing education in the scholarship of teaching and learning and in the assessment of educational programs.
