Mini grant helps Gamma Mu Chapter of Delta Omega shine a light on food insecurity

The Gamma Mu Chapter of Delta Omega Honorary Society has been awarded a Seeding Sparks mini grant by Voices of Hunger to support the West Virginia University School of Public Health student organization’s work to educate the campus and local community about food insecurity.

With countless individuals and families in the community facing poverty and homelessness, the students and faculty of Gamma Mu identified the need—now more than ever—to advocate for policy change promoting right to food.

The funds from the mini grant help support a social media campaign led by WVU Gamma Mu aimed to shine a light on food insecurity and provide the public with insight into how the food system differentially works for some and not for others. Communications intern Morgan Jones from WVU Eberly College of Arts and Sciences has been instrumental in developing and implementing the social media initiative.

“We hope to spark a broader community conversation that helps community members of the greater Morgantown area come together to advocate for policy that promotes food security for all,” Haley Menarchek, past president of WVU Gamma Mu, said.
