School of Public Health welcomes new faculty to Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences

The Department of Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences recently welcomed two new faculty members to the WVU School of Public Health. 

Sergio Augusto Caporali Filho, MS, PhD, joined the department as professor and program director for Industrial Hygiene on May 31, 2022. Prior to his time at WVU, Dr. Caporali served as professor and program coordinator for the University of Puerto Rico-Medical Sciences Campus, Graduate School of Public Health's Department of Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene program. Dr. Caporali graduated with his PhD in industrial engineering from WVU in 2002.

Dr. Caporali’s current research focuses on industrial hygiene, such as hazard assessment techniques, the enhancement of hazard control measures, the development of more efficient hazard recognition or anticipation tools, and the effect of air density on the aerosol transport ability of industrial ventilation systems.

Marcus Cervantes, MD, has joined the department's Division of Occupational Medicine as a clinical faculty member. 

Dr. Cervantes is a Michigan native and attended medical school at Michigan State University. After completing family medicine training through MSU at Sparrow Hospital, he went on to Duke University Hospital, where he completed additional training in Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

His special interests include care of first responders, firefighter cancer research, and latent tuberculosis infection.
