WVCTSI offering Master Class on Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

June 7-8, in-person and remote options available

WVCTSI will host a special two-day Master Class on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for public health health, clinical and policy research. All students, faculty and residents interested in clinical and translational research are invited to attend. 

During day one of this event, attendees will hear from a nationwide group of experts presenting their research and ideas that will give attendees the opportunity to see how broadly these methodologies can be applied. Day one will conclude with a networking event where participants can share ideas and discuss priority areas.

  • Rajib Paul, PhD, Associate Professor at University of North Carolina Charlotte, Department of Public Health Sciences
  • Sonikpreet Aulakh, MD, Assistant Professor at WVU, School of Medicine Department of Neuroscience
  • Brian Witrick, PhD, Clemson University

Day two will be a workshop covering basic map making and use of cluster and drive time analyses. Attendees will also create their own GIS powered web-based applications that will be usable on nearly all smart devices.

This event will take place from 12 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7 and from 9:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8. Registration required. Attendees have the option to attend in person or remotely via Zoom. Location TBD. Any questions can be directed to Kerri Rogers at kag0012@hsc.wvu.edu.
