Department of Health Policy, Management and Leadership welcomes new assistant professor

The School of Public Health has welcomed Dr. Michael P. Fisher as a new assistant professor for the Department of Health Policy, Management & Leadership.

Dr. Fisher has over 15 years of health policy research experience in both academic and applied settings. During this time, he held research faculty positions at two schools of medicine; served as a health policy researcher in Washington, DC; consulted for various health and health care organizations; and taught courses on health systems and management topics.

His research focuses on issues of health policy and politics, with an emphasis on mental health policy. Much of his work centers on people in high-stress occupations such as military service members and first responders. As a qualitative and mixed methodologist, he utilizes a range of study designs—often involving interviews or surveys—and publishes on the use of qualitative methods in health policy and systems contexts.

Dr. Fisher earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California at San Francisco, M.S. in Health Systems Administration from Georgetown University, and B.S. in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Studies from the University of Southern California.
