National leader in healthcare management to speak at WVU School of Public Health commencement ceremony

Nationally-renowned healthcare leader, Thomas C. Dolan, PhD, FACHE, will speak to graduates at the West Virginia University School of Public Health commencement ceremony held Friday, May 13, at 4 p.m. in the Canady Creative Arts Center.

Dolan is president emeritus of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of more than 48,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. He is board-certified in healthcare management and a Fellow of both the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Society of Association Executives.

According to WVU School of Public Health Dean Jeffrey Coben, Dolan embodies the traits of passion, innovation and tirelessness within the Mountaineer community.

“Dr. Dolan has dedicated his life to not only learning, researching and pioneering improvements in healthcare but also mentoring others how to do the same,” said Dr. Coben. “We’re thrilled and humbled that our graduating class will have the opportunity to hear from an individual with a commitment to empowering the public health leaders of tomorrow.”

Dolan served as president and chief executive officer of the American College of Healthcare Executives for more than two decades. Prior to joining ACHE, he held a variety of teaching, research and administrative positions at St. Louis University, the University of Missouri-Columbia, the University of Washington and the University of Iowa. Dolan earned his doctorate in hospital and health administration from the University of Iowa and his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago.

Additionally, Dolan is a United States Army veteran and recipient of the U.S. Army Outstanding Civilian Service Medal. He has also received a gold medal from the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Distinguished Service Award from the American Hospital Association, a Key Award from the American Society of Association Executives, among several other accolades of high merit.
