School of Public Health program director earns fellowship to advance preventive medicine
West Virginia University Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Program Director Jennifer Lultschik has been named an American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) Fellow, further advancing her advocacy work on a larger scale.
“It’s a great honor, and it gives me fresh energy and determination to continue promoting preventive medicine and population health in West Virginia,” Dr. Lultschik said.
Fellows are recognized by the ACPM for their demonstration of “significant efforts to advance the preventive medicine specialty and mission of the College.” Since her graduation with a Master of Public Health degree from the WVU School of Public Health in 2014, Lultschik has embodied this mission through her mentorship and teaching.
As director of the Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Residency Program, she has assisted in preparing postgraduate trainee physicians to become leaders in public health and preventive medicine.
“I want to expand our outreach in the state and region, advocate for more secure funding for preventive medicine training federally and help educate the next generation of physicians who will take up the torch and carry it,” she said.
With this achievement, Lultschik plans to work with Federally Qualified Health Centers and patient-centered medical homes to extend lifestyle medicine services, as well as with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on a project to increase lead testing in children in the Mountain State.
“It’s a first step in the many things I want to do to promote and provide improved health access and outcomes in our state,” Lultschik said. “I am honored and inspired to work with the great people in the WVU School of Public Health, with the American College of Preventive Medicine and with other partners to make this a reality.”
