Students needed for simulation HIV project
The West Virginia Regional Partner of the MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center (MA AETC) is offering the opportunity to provide students with the experience of interviewing an HIV positive Standardized Patient during the Fall 2018 semester on an individual basis as well as in an interprofessional group.
Background: The MA AETC has formed an interprofessional educational project among its local regional partners, in order to develop a centralized IPE Collaborative (IPEC). West Virginia University was identified as one of MA AETC’s regional partners for the project. For the Fall 2018 semester we are seeking six students from each core School (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Occupational Therapy and Public Health) to create six groups with representatives from each school.
Project Purpose: The purpose of this project is to determine if working as an interprofessional team is superior to the individual provision of care in improving quality and outcomes in a patient living with HIV.
Method: Each student from each core school will interview a standardized patient living with HIV on an individual basis then develop their individual care plan. The interprofessional group will meet with a faculty debriefer to develop a comprehensive care plan. The faculty debriefer will review the individual student video/care plan before they meet with the group. Subsequently, the faculty debriefer will meet face to face with the group to debrief and provide feedback on the group care plan which will be video recorded.
