Vice President’s Awards Ceremony to be held virtually Sept. 1

A virtual ceremony is being held to honor 11 individuals and one team with Vice President’s Awards for their significant contributions to the mission of the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center.

The ceremony is being live streamed Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. at https://www.hsc.wvu.edu/webcast. The event will also be recorded.

Each year, the Vice President’s Awards honor faculty and staff who have been recognized by their peers for their outstanding accomplishments. Winners were nominated by their peers and selected by their respective Achievement Award committees.

During the virtual ceremony, Vice President and Executive Dean for Health Sciences Clay Marsh will offer a welcome message and Associate Vice President for Health Sciences Academic Affairs Louise Veselicky will present the awards.

This year’s award recipients include Faculty Award winners Stephen Davis, PhD, School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy, Management, and Leadership; Bingyun Li, PhD, School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics; Ashley Petrone, PhD, School of Medicine, Department of Pathology, Anatomy, and Laboratory Medicine; and Michael Schaller, PhD, School of Medicine.

Staff Award winners include Fred Whitaker, Campus Service Worker; Jennifer Sherrod, Administrative Assoc., School of Public Health, Dept. of Occupational & Environmental Health Sciences; April Vestal, MPH, Director WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health; Angela Wilson Research Aide, Office of Lab Animal Resources; and Lauren Devine, Director of Admissions and Recruitment, School of Public Health, Academic & Student Affairs.

The Team Award winner is WVU Health Sciences Office of Continuing Education Team, including Kari Long, MBA, Director of WVU Health Sciences Office of Continuing Education; Doris Tucker, Continuing Education Coordinator; Katherine Loehr, Web and Technology Coordinator; and Gernelle Rivers, Finance and Technology Assistant.

The WISH (Women in Science & Health) Award recipients are Mariette Barbier, PhD, School of Medicine, Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Cell Biology; and Linda S. Nield, MD, School of Medicine, Department of Medical Education.
