WVU in the News: Celebrate, but safety is key when handling fireworks
The fireworks tents have sprouted up recently like dandelions in the spring. There is no shortage of things that go bang, and neighborhoods will be lit up this week to mark our nation’s independence.
But some celebrations have, as history reminds us, turned tragic as people are hurt and sometimes permanently scarred by homegrown fireworks displays gone awry.
About this time a year ago, the West Virginia University School of Public Health put out a study that showed serious injuries shot up 40% after the state liberalized the sale of fireworks.
