Bossarte recognized as world expert in suicide research

Dr. Robert Bossarte has been recognized as a world expert in the field of suicide, according to Expertscape.

Bossarte, Director of the WVU Injury Control Research Center and Associate Professor with the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry in the WVU School of Medicine and the Department of Epidemiology in the WVU School of Public Health, has been ranked in the top .063% of scholars in the field. Over the past 10 years, he has published 64 papers on suicide. Recent papers are on subjects as diverse as interventions to increase firearm safety among patients in VA mental health treatment, theory-based formative research to design suicide prevention messaging for U.S. Veterans, and suicide risk among Veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bossarte recently received a grant from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to compare treatment strategies for rural depressed patients.

“Suicide is a significant challenge in America, particularly in rural areas,” said Bossarte. "It is an honor to be recognized as a leading expert along with the other scholars working to make a difference.”
