Graduate Admissions

Application deadlines:

  • Spring admission (online programs only)
    • Domestic applicants – Nov. 20
    • International applicants – Oct. 15
  • Fall admission (Master’s programs)
    • Domestic applicants – July 22
    • International applicants – May 15
  • Fall admission (Ph.D. programs) – Dec. 15


Applicants must apply via the Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS).
 

  • Submit as soon as possible. Do not wait for SOPHAS to receive transcripts, recommendations, or test scores.
  • Allow up to four weeks for SOPHAS to verify and process your application.
  • Applications must be complete and verified by SOPHAS by the following deadlines:
    • June 15 for Fall admission (May 15 for international)
    • November 20 for Spring admission (October 15 for international)

For the SOPHAS application, applicants must submit:​

  • A statement of purpose and objectives
  • Two letters of reference for master's programs or three letters of reference for the Ph.D. program
  • A current resume/curriculum vitae
  • All university transcripts (SOPHAS requires original transcripts from ALL U.S. institutions attended, even study abroad).
  • International students must submit English language proficiency test score(s).

GRE scores are not required for this program; however, should you choose to submit your official GRE test scores, the WVU School of Public Health SOPHAS GRE code is 0157.

English proficiency scores: International applicants must submit English language proficiency test score(s). Please find more information and exemptions on the WVU Graduate Admissions website.

WVU accepts the following exams and minimum scores. WVU does not section or sub-score requirements for regular admission when the overall or total score is met. 

  • TOEFL iBT through January 2026 (Home Edition is accepted): 79
  • TOEFL iBT after January 2026 (Home Edition is accepted): 4.0
  • Academic IELTS: 6.5
  • TOEFL Essentials: 9.0
  • Duolingo English Test: 105
  • PTE Academic and PTE Express: 53

WVU does not accept expired scores, scores we can’t verify, General IELTS, or institutional TOEFLs (TOEFL ITP).
