Support our students and advance the mission of our school on Wednesday, March 22

A message from Interim Deans Carlton and Woodrum

Dear Colleagues,

We hope you will join us and fellow Mountaineers both within and outside the School of Public Health as we come together to support our students and advance the mission of our school this Wednesday for WVU’s sixth Day of Giving.

By making a gift of any amount in support of the School of Public Health on March 22, you're making an investment in our current and future students. Last year, together, we raised a total of $26,835 to support graduate and undergraduate scholarships, experiential learning opportunities, and immediate needs of the school.

This year, our hope is to go above and beyond that mark—especially with participation. And to bolster our efforts, the first 55 gifts made to the School of Public Health during Day of Giving will unlock a $2,000 gift from Chancellor and Executive Dean Clay Marsh. A donation of any amount to the School of Public Health will help us meet this challenge and unlock the gift.

Our funding priorities this year:

  • MPH Scholarship Fund - Supports graduate students in the Master of Public Health program
  • Workforce Development - Supports public health workforce training needs across the state
  • Health & Wellness - Supports our faculty and students in addressing issues related, but not limited to: physical activity, obesity, substance use disorder and mental health.
  • Dean's Fund for Excellence in Public Health - Supports the School’s ability to innovate and respond to our most pressing needs and opportunities

A gift, no matter the size, is more than just a financial contribution. It is a vote of confidence in our students and their potential; each contribution reflects our belief that our students and the future of public health is worth the investment. The act of giving, alone, can inspire others to do the same.

On March 22, you can make a gift by visiting dayofgiving.wvu.edu/publichealth and follow the WVU Foundation (@WVUFoundation) and School of Public Health social media accounts to maximize your giving by participating in various challenges throughout the day.

Should you have any questions about other ways to support the School of Public Health, please reach out to Director of Development Tiffany Walker-Samuels

We remain grateful for all you do to support our students every day of the year.

With deep appreciation,

Erik Carlton, DrPH, and Sarah Woodrum, DrPH
